Christmas Ornament “Spindle Tree 1.0” 2024

This playful ornament is inspired by those whimsical spindle tree seed vessels, carrying a special colourfulness and joyfulness throughout autumn and into winter. Their design is cheerful, airing festivity and the lightheartedness of Christmas. When looking at them, the almost seem like fairies had much joy creating them from gaiety and merriment.

As so often with the plants and flowers I paint, spindle trees grow along many of my walking routes around my home. I’ve always enjoyed looking at them when their blossoms turned into bright pink seed vessels with orange seeds. They are just jolly, little treats of nature in an otherwise often rainy and dark season. And did you know that the spindle tree wood had been used to make organ-pipes or charcoal for painting?

Now I hope you find as much joy in them as I had while painting (and researching).

This design is also available in an oval shape. Have a look here.
